Surf
Crypto-native data API for AI agents — unified on-chain, market, social, and prediction-market intelligence behind one auth layer.
1. 核心产品 / 服务
Surf (asksurf.ai) is not a generic financial data aggregator — earlier note from 2026-04-04 mis-scoped it. It is a crypto intelligence platform that exposes its data layer to AI agents.
- Data API: 83 RESTful endpoints across 12 domains [docs.asksurf.ai, 2026-05-09]
- Market: prices, technical indicators, futures, options
- Exchange: order books, candlesticks, funding rates
- Wallet: balances, DeFi positions, net worth
- Social: Twitter/X profiles, sentiment
- Token: holders, DEX trades, unlock schedules
- Prediction markets: Polymarket, Kalshi
- On-chain: transactions, gas, yield rankings
- News + cross-domain search
- SQL layer: 58 analyst-ready ClickHouse tables
- Coverage: 40+ blockchains, 200+ underlying data sources [Fortune, 2025-12-10]
- Agent-native distribution: ships an open-source skill (
asksurf-ai/surf-skillson GitHub) that drops 83 endpoints into Claude Code / agent runtimes with one install. Free tier = 30 credits/day no-auth;surf authunlocks paid tiers. - Consumer chat product: asksurf.ai web/mobile app, claims 4× better than ChatGPT/Grok on crypto-task benchmarks (run with Princeton).
2. 服务对象 & 痛点
Per founder interview (Fortune 2025-12-10):
- 80% general consumers — retail crypto users who don't trust generic LLMs to read charts, wallets, or predict-market odds.
- 20% professionals — VC firms, exchanges, crypto-native orgs needing programmatic data.
- Agent builders — Surf treats the AI-agent channel as first-class (separate
agents.asksurf.aiportal, Claude skill SDK).
Pain it solves: ChatGPT/Perplexity hallucinate on token tickers, can't read on-chain wallets, don't index Polymarket/Kalshi. Existing crypto-data vendors (Dune, Nansen, Glassnode, CoinGecko) are siloed and not packaged for LLM consumption.
3. 竞争格局
| Competitor | Model | Strength | Weakness vs Surf |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dune Analytics | SQL on indexed chains | Deepest on-chain SQL, large analyst community | No agent-native packaging, no social/predict markets, query-only |
| Nansen | Wallet labelling + dashboards | Best-in-class wallet intel | Not API-first for agents, expensive enterprise pricing |
| Glassnode | On-chain metrics | Macro/BTC-focus rigor | BTC/ETH skewed, no social or predict |
| CoinGecko / CMC | Price + metadata APIs | Free, broad coverage | Shallow — prices and metadata only |
| Messari AI | Curated research + AI assistant | Editorial quality | Smaller data surface, less agent-friendly |
| The Graph | Subgraph protocol | Decentralised, composable | Devs must build subgraphs; no out-of-box LLM skill |
Surf's differentiation: (a) breadth (12 domains in one auth/billing surface), (b) agent-first packaging — its Claude/agent skill is the unit of distribution, putting it adjacent to tavily (web-search-for-agents) and locus (API aggregator) rather than to traditional crypto-data vendors. The earlier wiki framing as "Bloomberg/Refinitiv competitor" was wrong — Surf is not in tradfi market data; it competes in the crypto-data + agent-tools layer.
4. 独特观察
- Agent skill as GTM channel is the actually-interesting move. Surf publishes a Claude Code skill that registers 83 endpoints with one install — same playbook tavily used for web search. This is the info-intermediary thesis playing out: data vendors who ship as agent skills compound much faster than those who ship docs + SDK.
- Tier-gated agent access: retail subscription ($15–$399/mo) doubles as agent metering. The "Max tier" Jimmy referenced on 2026-04-04 is the top consumer plan that unlocks API-key access — i.e. consumer-pricing economics are subsidising agent-API adoption [Fortune 2025-12-10].
- Naming collision risk: a separate "Surf AI" cybersecurity company emerged from stealth in 2026-03 with $57M funding. Different company. Crypto Surf = asksurf.ai (Wilson Wei et al.). Watch for confusion in press.
- Crypto-only is the moat and the ceiling: Princeton-benchmarked 4× advantage over ChatGPT exists because the dataset is narrow. If they expand to tradfi they lose the moat; if they don't, TAM is capped to crypto-curious agent builders.
- Connects naturally to agent-payment-apis-2026 — Surf is one of the prototype "agent-priced data APIs" alongside Tavily/Locus/x402-protocol-billed services.
