Kite.ai (formerly Zettablock) operates Kite Chain, a purpose-built EVM-compatible Layer-1 launched as a dedicated Avalanche-ecosystem chain. 3. Competitive Landscape

The honest read: x402 is a protocol, not a competitor — Kite implements it. The real fight is distribution against Stripe/Tempo and Coinbase/AWS, both of whom have far larger merchant networks. Kite's bet is that an L1 with native agent identity + multi-standard support becomes the neutral hub when no single legacy player wins.

4. Unique Observations

• Pivot from Zettablock is significant. The team came from running production data infra for avalanche, Polygon, Sui, Chainlink, EigenLayer (i.e., they were the data plumbing for crypto's last cycle). The pivot to "agent payments L1" is essentially "we already know how to run distributed infra at scale, now we're applying it to agents."
